Sean is 10 Months!

Just a quick post but Sean is 10 months old (yesterday)!! He is quite the mover these days. Our 10 month photos were difficult to take this time as he really did not want to stop moving around. He seemed to have a blast this time. He kept laughing and looking at me and moving all around in the chair. I tried to get a couple videos of this but since I was more concerned with preventing him from throwing himself off the chair the videos were not as good as I hoped. He was so cute though. When he was not laughing and trying to jump off the chair he was busy patting Dogwood. He kept doing this over and over. It was adorable. I included the videos at the end. Below are several of our favorites! Can't believe our baby is 10 months already!

Moving up! (and down)

Lots of new developments going on with Sean lately. I will start with the small ones first. We moved the height on his exersaucer up to the top position. If he gets much taller he will be too big for it. Although I think his interest in it will end before then. He will play in it now for bit of time (especially when he has not been it for a while) but will get tired of it pretty quickly. He received this for Christmas so it has gotten lots of good use! We also moved the jumper up to the top position. He reaction was as if it was an all new toy. He can really bounce again.

On Father's Day we lowered the crib. We had talked about doing this for a while but Sean's ability to sit up on his own now made it a necessity! He never actually sat up on his own in the crib but sometimes we put him the crib with a few toys for short periods of time if we really need to get something done. The below pictures illustrate how important it was to move it down right away.

I had been dreading this as I thought it would pretty difficult but it actually was pretty easy. Brett and I did it together with Sean in the exersaucer. Sean has not seemed affected by it at all (not that we really expected him to be) but it is a tad harder to put him down now! I guess the next thing we have to worry about is when he gets to big for crib altogether. I used to jump out of my crib at night (which is how my parents knew it was time to move to a bed). We are hoping Sean does not follow in my footsteps since our floor is hardwood! Here are a few pictures of Sean in the lowered crib.

The big news is that Sean is moving up at school (to the crawler room)! They had mentioned it to us before that they would be moving him soon but were not sure exactly when. This past week he had a trial run, going over into the crawler room every day for a period of time. They told us that he did great each time and that he loved being in the room with all the space to move around and play. The infant room is great, with lots of things to keep the babies occupied (cribs, exersaucers, bouncers, swings, play mats, jumperoos, etc.). There is some room to crawl around in but not much. They told us that Sean moves all around the room and recently had been trying to crawl under the cribs. We were not surprised as he is always sticking his arms under the couches at home. He also loves to crawl into the lower part of the exersaucer at home (more on that in another post). He is moving on Monday. I teared up when I heard he was going to move. The people in the infant room have been so good to Sean. I am sure the next room will be just as great but I just can't believe how big our little man is getting!

Supermarket Trip

About a week and a half ago Sean took his first real trip to the Supermarket. He had been to the supermarket once before as well as a few trips to Target and Costco but these were in his stroller and were fairly quick trips. This time we put him in the seat portion of the cart and did our normal shopping. He seemed to really enjoy it! He has always been very inquisitive and this was no exception. We brought him again this past weekend and it was a similar experience. It is nice to go out and about with him even if it is just running errands! Here are a few pictures from our trip. :-)

Sean has become quite the little mover. He does not crawl "normally" yet but he can get where he wants to go combining his little army crawl and rolling. The morning we went to the grocery store Sean was playing and he started moving toward something. This is where he ended up.

This is his kick and play playmat that he used all the time we he was a bit smaller. We put it off to the side in the living room but had not put it away yet. Turns out Sean was not quite done playing with it. We moved it into the back room after this.

Memorial Weekend Trip

We took our first out of town trip for Memorial Day weekend. We visited Brett's parents and had a great time! We drove up early Saturday morning. This was our longest car ride with Sean to date and he did really well, especially considering he was awake for almost the entire time! We stopped at a rest stop a little over halfway there to give Sean a jar of peaches. He seemed a little confused as to why he was eating in his carseat but after a couple bites was chowing down like usual.

Gemma and Poppa bought Sean a bucket full of toys so we did not have to bring very many (other than those needed to entertain SJ in the car). One of Sean's favorite activities is to "unpack" his toys. At home he has a little bucket that we fill with his toys and put it in front of him. He likes to make sure they are all out of the bucket. It is pretty funny when he has finished "unpacking" to put them all back in the bucket because he almost always feels the need to unpack them again. Sometimes he just turns the bucket over and dumps them out but usually it is one or two toys at a time, studying each one closely. Anyway, not only were they new toys but Gemma had them all in a real bucket! Sean did not really know what to do with himself at first so he just looked inside. :-)

This bucket quickly became one of Sean's favorite "toys". He would turn the bucket over and bang on the bottom over and over. I tried to get a video but did not end up getting a good one. Here is a picture though!

Poppa and Gemma have a pack and play so we did not have to worry about bringing ours (thank goodness!). The mattress in the pack and play is pretty thin and I was a little worried if Sean would be comfortable enough to sleep. One of my coworkers told me that they bought a special pack and play mattress and sheets for their daughter when they travel (not very expensive). We bought the exact mattress and boy am I glad! Adding the mattress definitely made it feel more like his crib at home. He did alright for naps (once we actually got him down) but slept GREAT at night. He actually slept later then he ever has at home. He did wake up once in the early morning. I saw him open his eyes and look over at the bed (the pack and play was in the same room we slept in). I pretended to be asleep and tried my best not to move at all. He went back to sleep and slept for another hour. We were so proud of the little man!

Sean felt right at home in the high chair. This is the same one we have at home!

Woody got in on the eating fun, although I am not sure what he found since Sean was eating pureed food but still funny! Sean did drop a few Puffs during the weekend and Woody snatched them up pretty quickly. However, much to Woody's chagrin, most of the dropped puffs tended to end up in the sides of the high chair, not the floor.

Fun with Poppa!!

We all had a great weekend and look forward to doing it again soon! Sean had so much fun he slept the ENTIRE car ride home. This might have also been the result of his refusal to nap on Sunday but I like to think he was tuckered out from so much playing.

Sean is 9 months old!

Hard to believe that our little man is 9 months old (2 weeks ago)! He had his checkup last Thursday and received a great report! He is a big boy, over the 90% mark for length, weight and head circumference. Below are a few pictures from our 9 month photo shoot (which we did actually take on his nine month "birthday").

Sean has started to figure out that the month is a sticker and can be played with.

He is such a busy boy now; sometimes it can be hard to get his attention for the picture!

In the past couple days Sean has officially figured out how to crawl! It is not a "proper" crawl but it gets him where he wants to go nonetheless (which is usually the opposite direction of where we want him to go). We will post a video of his "crawl" as soon as we can actually get it on video.

Two weekends ago we went on our first out of town trip with Sean. We visited Gemma and Poppa and it was great. More on that soon. :-)

Catching up

The blog got a little side tracked recently because of Sean getting sick but he got the all clear from the doctor that his breathing sounds great and we are done with the antibiotics for his ear infection. Let's hope this lasts! :-) There are lots of new things happening with Sean so hopefully this will catch us up.

Since Brett has been twice we really like to watch the Kentucky Derby. Plus it is an event that in my mind always means were are closer to summer. We had big plans to dress Sean up in a cute outfit and take some pictures but he napped for an extra long time that day and got up with just enough time to race outside and get some pictures before the race started, so no cute outfits this year. Brett posed with one of the glasses he got when he attended. This is by far my favorite from our photo shoot and plan to print a few copies to frame at home and at work.

Sean has recently started to really reach for things that he wants. Before he would stare at an object and if it got close enough he would try and grab for it but now if he sees something that he wants he will try and grab for it even if he is not really that close to it. Brett spent a lot of this photoshoot keeping the drink away from Sean as shown below.

Sean loves his toys but it is becoming evident that now he likes to drop them and see what we will do. When he is playing in his exersaucer, if he is given a toy that is not attached it will be on the floor in a matter of 60 seconds or so. He drops it and then stares at it on the floor, then looks at us with these big, "are you going to get that for me" eyes, then back to the object on the floor. Brett and I will indulge him a few times but after the 3rd of 4th drop we just leave it there since if he is in the exersaucer it usually means we are trying to get a chore done. Here is a pic of him staring at something he just dropped on the floor. It is adorable and mildly annoying all at the same time.

No crawling yet but he seems so close. We have been putting his toys just out of reach and he gets into position to crawl and will try and reach for the toy but usually just ends of rolling over then he rolls over again and again until he is on the other side of the room just by rolling, usually picking up a toy in the process. He has also started turning himself around in circles while in the crawling position. We are pretty sure that once he figures it out he will not stop so we need to get moving on figuring out the baby gate situation. Here is a little video that combines the rolling and the circle turning.

We recently decided that Sean is getting a little too big and heavy for his baby carrier. We have not switched yet but I think we will in the next couple weeks. I am going to miss getting him settled and ready in the carrier before we leave the house but I am not going to miss carrying him around in it! I decided I wanted to try the stroller with him in the actual seat versus attaching his baby carrier. He seemed pretty comfy.

However, I need to find a better way to shield his face from the sun since in the baby carrier we can just pull the sun shade from the carseat together with the one from the stroller completely blocking him from the sun. The sun shade on the stroller does not cover his face enough in certain directions. Instead this is how he solved the problem. In this picture he is not actually asleep as I had originally thought!

This past weekend was my first Mother's Day and the following day was my birthday. Brett and Sean got me flowers (yay) and a new pair of shoes that I had wanted for a while. Sean has great taste! I got a fitbit for my birthday from Gemma which I have also wanted for a while. Opening cards and gifts was really fun because Sean is getting to an age where he finds this interesting. Sean seemed especially interested in playing with the boxes.

Who needs toys when we can play with an empty box and wrapping paper!

We moved Sean to the big boy tub this week. He is way too big for the baby tub but the big tub is a little big for him. We have to keep a close eye on him and always keep a hand on him so he does not pitch forward and go under. This almost happened the first time he was in the tub when he lunged for a toy but we caught him just in time. He seems to love being in the big tub, playing with his toys and splashing away.

One last thing that Sean has started to do recently is throw little baby temper tantrums. He does not do them often but they happen at a few key times. The changing table is one of them. This used to be one of his favorite places, in fact at one point a few months ago we used to put him on the changing table when he was crying and he would usually calm down. He is especially unhappy when we are getting him ready for bed. These tantrums also happen when we he wants more food. Last night Brett and I switched who was feeding him halfway through a jar of mixed veggies and Sean's face melted into tears when I stood up and Brett sat down. He cried until the spoon was literally in his mouth then he was happy. We think he is going through a growth spurt right now because when he finished that jar of food he started crying again and was not content until he ate another entire jar of apples. Here is poor starving Sean when we scrambled to open a new jar of food last night.

We don't have any pictures of this, but Sean is working on 2 teeth on the top now (the 2 on the bottom are up. Watch out if he grabs your finger and puts it in his mouth (which he does very quickly) because it hurts now when he bites down!

I am headed to Wake Forest this weekend for my baby sister's college graduation (WOW!). Brett is staying home with Sean and Gemma is coming to visit!

I think that gets us all caught up from the last couple weeks. Hopefully we can get back to updating this a little more regularly. I am signing off with a few additional recent cute pictures of Sean.

Weekend with Gemma and Poppa

Last weekend Gemma, Poppa AND Woody came to visit! They came on Thursday so Sean got to sleep in, skip daycare on Friday and spend the whole day with them. Everyone had a great time!

Sean and Woody met for the first time. It seemed to go well. After their first meeting they actually did not pay much attention to each other but I am sure as Sean gets older they will become good friends :-) Here are are few pics from their initial meeting.

Sean grabbed a handful of Woody's hair but Woody hardly seemed to notice.

The weather was great last weekend so we tried to spend a lot of time outside. We took a little trip to the park and tried the swing again. Sean had about the same reaction as last time but we did get a cute picture with his new floppy hat!

While we were at the park we got a picture of the 3 of us. This does not happen very often so we are always happy when we can get one.

We also got a cute picture of Sean hanging out with Gemma, Poppa and Woody. This was no easy task between Woody moving and Sean fussing!

It was a nice weekend that went by far too quickly!
